I started my career in insurance after receiving my undergraduate degree in Music Theory and Composition from Centenary College of Louisiana, and my graduate degree in Management and Marketing from Texas A&M University. So, I am certain that you can see the connection! I was like many college graduates who started in the business – it was the only industry willing to pay liberal arts majors an outrageous salary for a non-desk position.
I received my “formal” training in claims with the nations’ largest auto insurer. There I met wonderful people and learned tons along the way. One of the main lessons I learned was that I wasn’t really sure if claims were right for me! Not convinced that insurance was my passion, I left the company in 2000 where I embarked on a series of “part-time” and “self-employment” endeavors. I did small engagements at other insurance carriers and eventually started working for my father’s friend who happened to sell insurance. It was great. I had the potential to make lots of money, learn interesting things about interesting people, but most of all, I was able to help individuals realize their dreams as well as give them some piece of mind!
After working for my father’s friend for several months, I decided to go out on my own. In early 2006, I started HM Risk Group, with a dream, $500.00 and not one single client! There is no secret to my success. I was blessed and fortune to meet people who were willing to help my business expand and grow.
I absolutely love music. As a classically trained violinist and vocalist, I hope the spirit in which this blog was created is not only helpful, but entertaining as well. I was fortunate to study with one of the best musicians in the world, Sho-Mei Pelletier of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. As a longtime resident of Dallas, Texas, I was very active with the Dallas Symphony’s Young Strings Program, Dallas Opera Distinguished Audiences, and Dallas Chamber Orchestra.
I am actively involved in the Austin Women’s Symphony League, Junior League of Austin, National Association of Women in Construction and Federation of Insurance Women in Texas
In my spare time, I love hanging out at Joe’s in Austin, walking around Town Lake, traveling to new and exciting places, playing the violin, antiquing and laughing out loud with friends!
